Lady Deacons vs Caldwell Cougars game recap

What snow?

In spite of the record-breaking blizzard the day before, the rivalry of the Lady Deacons and the Caldwell College Cougars saw a sell-out crowd in the Newman Center at Caldwell College.

Beginning with a continental breakfast reception for alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, the crowd, clad in their maroon tee-shirts and shaking cheering pom poms moved to the gym for welcomes by Richard Levao, president of Bloomfield College and Dr. Nancy Blattner, president of Caldwell College, Mayor Ray McCarthy of Bloomfield, and Sheila Wooten ’84, athletic director of Bloomfield College. The TV cameras were in place to televise the game on CBS Sports Network and amid the cheering crowds, the game began.

Prior to tip-off, Bloomfield College students were fortifying themselves with pizza and learning new cheers to spur their classmates on. Five buses of students arrived from Bloomfield College to fill the bleachers with a sea of maroon tee-shirts and cheering fans.

When the dust settled, though, it was the Cougars who stood victorious, outscoring the Lady Deacons 19-12 over the final seven minutes to take a 68-61 decision.  The game brought out the best of the Bloomfield College Community who clearly supported the team, regardless of the score.
